Erika Macalli

Erika Macalli was born in Rome and began playing the flute thanks to her father, who was the principal flutist at the Rome Opera. At the age of 16, she completed her diploma in Rome, followed by a master’s degree in Milan and the Certificate of Performance in Vienna, studying with Karl-Heinz Schütz.

Her principal teachers include Michele Marasco, Paolo Taballione, Andrea Oliva, and Fabio Colajanni.

Erika Macalli has been recognized in several international competitions: in 2010 she won second prize at the Krakamp Competition, in 2017 first prize at the Kuhlau Competition along with the special award for “The Most Beautiful Sound,” and the same year she was the winner of the Premio Kohler.

Since November 2025, Erika Macalli has been principal flutist on a fixed-term contract with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2022 she held a temporary position with the Staatskapelle Berlin (Assistant Principal / 3rd and 4th Flute & Piccolo) and has also appeared as guest with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, and the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

In addition, she has performed with the Philharmonisches Orchester Hagen, the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, the Bremer Philharmoniker, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano G. Verdi, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, and in 2025 as guest principal flutist with the Philharmonisches Orchester Kiel and the Staatsorchester Braunschweig.
