    Stefan Cunningham

    Scottish-born Stefan graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2021 with distinction where he was awarded the Worshipful Company of Musician’s Orchestral Artistry scholarship and the Norman Gee Scholarship.

Scottish-born Stefan graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2021 with distinction where he was awarded the Worshipful Company of Musician’s Orchestral Artistry scholarship and the Norman Gee Scholarship. He studied with Sarah Newbold, Philippa Davies, Ian Clarke and Christopher Green. He formerly read musicology at King’s College London, where he specialized in musical analysis and composition. As a teenager he studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Junior Department with Sheena Gordon in Glasgow, having previously studied with Katherine Wake in his native city, Edinburgh.
 
At Guildhall he won the Needlemakers’ Prize for Woodwind and in the same year he took first place at the British Flute Society’s prestigious Young Artist Prize (2020). As a teenager he was Principal Flute of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra(s) of Scotland.
 
As a soloist he has played with Lavenham Sinfonia (Colchester) and the King’s College London Symphony Orchestra, having won the concerto competition there.
 
His recent professional orchestral engagements include playing guest principal with Northern Ballet and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, where he is currently on trial.
